IgM antibodies

Subclass of an immunoglobulin that exists in a pentameric form.

Majority of b-cells produce IgM when they are activated. Act as powerful early weapons that slow down an infection. With 10 binding regions they clump pathogens together easily and increase avidity. Additionally, they can activate the classical pathway of the complement pathway.

Quick acting from spleen, if pathogens are detected in lymph coming through the spleen, unrefined b-cells are activated which produce these fairly general IgM, however their fast acting behaviour is important.
