19S caps §

Together with 20S core, forms a proteasome

Composed of a base containing 9 subunits that bind directly to the α rings of a 20S core and a lid that has up to 10 different subunits. One of the 19S caps binds and delivers proteins into the proteasome, while the other keeps them from exiting prematurely.
